URCA - Pieces of us
URCA
An URCA is the University Research Creativity Award that students can apply for and if they are awarded they get grants to help them display their artform. For this URCA the Choreographer Elizabeth Bailey worked with different students in the School of Fine Arts to display their poetry and art alongside her choreography to show how we heal and process trauma.
Lighting Designer
As the Lighting designer I worked with the choreographer and had different tasks, these included:
Working with the choreographer to light seven different pieces of the showcase
Building mini shin lights out of wide-flood Source 4 Pars
Coordinating load-in of lights/equipment with the Concert Coordinator
Performing a channel check before each tech and dress rehearsal
Making changes and adjustments pre/post-tec
Pieces of Us - By Elizabeth Bailey
"Pieces of Us" was an art installation and dance performance centered aroudn the effects of trauma and the journey of healing. The show consisted of over 9 pieces of physical art, a poetry piece, and 6 pieces of dance in the showcase. All the different art pieces shows how we all handle and process trauma differently, and how we can lean on each other to heal.

The building of the shins
Using platforms in our shop I created the mini shins by:
taking the C-Clamps off of the lights
Attaching the lights with washer and bolts to the platforms
making sure all six lights have the wide flood lenses in them
Unsure
displacement in the place of me
unease and distraction
thinking thoughts i shouldn't when i am alone
why do you displace me?
why do you make me uneasy? distracted?
is it because you don't know how to handle me?
or is it because you don't know how to handle yourself?
i know what I want, i know what i deserve
i cant believe this is happening
i thought id be happy
im happy in your arms even though you are suffocating me
the pain you make me feel causes me harm
but is it enough for me to tell you to stop?
can i handle what you do to me?
i am unsure
